Linear Eel Ramps

This is traditional straight eel ramp. An aluminum trough is set at an angle (up to 45 degrees) to allow eels to climb up and over a dam or other obstruction. In order for eels to grip the aluminum trough, a climbing substrate is installed on the trough floor. We have designed and installed Eel Ramps for various climbing substrates, including Enkamat, European Eel Tile, Milieu Substrate, Akwadrain, Brush, Studliner, Hybrid ABS Substrate, and the Hybrid Cast Aluminum Substrate. A small amount of transport water is added at the top to flow down the ramp, and a larger flow of attraction water is added at the base of the ramp to allow eels to find the passage entrance. A collection tank may be added to capture the eels and evaluate the effectiveness of the ramp.

Lakeside Engineering, Inc. has designed, fabricated, and installed over 20 linear eel ramps. A sampling is shown below.
