Cast Aluminum Climbing Substrate

Our cast aluminum eel climbing substrate has similar peg characteristics as the formed ABS substrate, but with a more durable material. Each side of the ramp slopes down to the center at a 5 degree angle to allow flexibility in transport flow to the ramp. This also provides a wetted edge for the eels to climb along, as shown in the adjacent video. The peg pattern allows for effective passage over a large range in eel sizes.

Lakeside Engineering fabricates the substrate in 30" long panels. As opposed to other substrates, these panels act as the floor in the ramp as well as the climbing substrate. The ramp sides are aluminum channels and are riveted to the edge of the floor panels. The channel size is dependent on the ramp span.

The cast aluminum climbing substrate is shown riveted to aluminum channels to create a durable ramp. The ramp covers are not shown.
